BLACK LIVES MATTER TALKING POINTS, "STAMPED..." TAUGHT IN CLASS LESSONS

5th grade reading assignment

Talking points from a founder of Black Lives Matter

“Excerpts from Alicia Garza, Why Black Lives Matter”

Parents expressed concern about this reading/writing assignment, saying the nature of the content is political, biased, and opinion instead of fact.

Excerpts:

Black people have “conditional citizenship”

Michael Brown was “murdered”

Black folks… “denied the rights to privilege that come with citizenship”

“white supremacy”

The assignment was accompanied by reading from the book, “Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and, You.”

Note: Political agenda and social issues are not in Missouri’s learning standards (what students are required to learn.)
