HOLIDAY GIVING #3 UPDATE: ROCKWOOD RESIDENTS' GENEROSITY FUNDS PROJECTS FOR 3 TEACHERS SO FAR.

In our Holiday Giving series, we have been featuring Rockwood teachers that requested donations through Donors Choose, a site that matches donors and teachers to help them get items they need for their classrooms.

Since we started featuring their projects, three Rockwood teachers have had their projects fully funded. Three others are still needing donations.

MS. KUEHN
Ms. Kuehn is one of the teachers whose projects is still open, seeking donations. She teaches 7th grade Language Arts at Selvidge Middle School and is asking for better seating in her classroom, as well as a standing desk that is similar to this one:

If you'd like to donate, you only have until Tuesday, December 19th. Here's the link:

MS. JONES
Ms Jones is still waiting to fully fund her project at Rockwood South Middle School, which includes a sturdier teacher table and smaller stools so she can fit more students around it for instruction.

If you'd like to donate, you have until Monday, December 18th. Here's the link:

A third Rockwood teacher also has an open project but the expiration date is much later than these. We will feature that project next.

FULLY FUNDED
MRS. ARMSTRONG
Mrs. Armstrong's project at Chesterfield Elementary School has been fully funded. She asked for supplies that her Kindergarten through second grade students could use to bind their journals and other books they created, as well as wobble stools.

MRS. HUGHES
One of Mrs. Hughes' Language Arts projects was fully funded. She asked for wall easel size sticky notes.

MS. STOUT
Ms. Stout's project at Rockwood South Middle School was fully funded. She requested comfortable seating and floor cushions for her Language Arts students.

WHY GIVE?

To help teachers as they try to improve learning. Barely 60% of Rockwood's students scored proficient or above on the state's most recent standardized tests.

NEW MAP SCORES FROM APRIL 2023
The state of Missouri just released the data for last spring's MAP scores. MAP stands for Missouri Assessment Program.

Language Arts dropped a bit. In 2023, district wide, just 60.1% of Rockwood's students scored proficient or advanced on the state's standardized Language Arts tests. (Language Arts is reading and writing.)

That is down from 2022, when 60.6% of Rockwood's Language Arts students scored proficient or above.

The district went up a bit in science, from 56.6% scoring proficient or above in 2022 , up to 58.2% scoring that way in 2023.
