IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, ROCKWOOD WRAP: ALLEGED SEX SCANDAL, SCHOOL SHOOTER THREAT, SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION/VACANCY

It's been quite a week for Rockwood parents and students.

SEX BETWEEN TEACHER AND STUDENT?
A Eureka High School teacher was escorted from the school last Wednesday, related to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student. There has been no district-wide communication regarding the incident or the teacher.

Multiple sources from Eureka High School say she is a young female ceramics teacher and that the student is a 17 year old male who is a senior at that school.

It is alleged that there were inappropriate texts and that the student has been bragging about a sexual encounter with the teacher.

An official with the district, who asked not to be named, confirmed the teacher is under investigation.

There is a state law that says a teacher who has sexual contact with a K-12 student is committing a Class E felony and that consent is not a defense.

SCHOOL SHOOTING THREAT
Rockwood Superintendent, Dr. Curtis Cain, sent an email Sunday night to high school parents that said there would be increased police presence at the high schools the following day, due to a threat to "shoot up a Rockwood high school."

Cain's email said that, after investigation, police had determined there was no immediate threat and that it was safe for school to be in session Monday.

NOT EVERYBODY GOT THE EMAIL
Parents who have younger students, but do NOT have students in the high schools, expressed frustration that the district did not also send them the email. They said they learned of the threat from social media posts and local news stations.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION/VACANCY
Shortly after incumbent Tamara Rhomberg and new-comer Phil Milligan won Rockwood's School Board election, current member Jessica Clark announced she was moving out of the district and stepping down with one year left on her term.

Per Rockwood policy, the board will interview applicants to serve the year left in Clark's term. On social media, parents are advocating for Tom Dunn to be selected. Dunn ran in the April election but did not win.

The board started accepting applications Monday (April 22nd). Board Secretary, Janet Sadowski, told us only 1 person so far has applied for the vacancy as of this writing (not Tom Dunn). The deadline to apply is May 6th.
