Around the country, people are beginning to discuss whether so-called DEI programs or socially inclusive teaching methods are helping academics.
MO state data appears to show that Black students have not been helped by them.
In Rockwood, this is the percentage of the district's Black students that scored "proficient" or "advanced" on the state's standardized tests in 2023:
24.2% on reading/ELA
16.7% on math
17.4% on science

In 2016, 44.8 percent scored proficient or advanced in reading. So, between 2016 and 2023, there was a 20.6 point drop. The effects of virtual learning during Covid and changes to the state's tests are generally used as reasons for the changes in scoring.
The above chart is from the St. Louis County Family Association, which got ten years worth of MAP score data from Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and loaded it into the Analytics tool to visually show the data in line graph form.
