ROLL OUT: THE EVIDENCE, PART 4. TEACHING THE TEACHERS TO FOCUS ON RACE IN THE CLASSROOM, AND, TO HIDE WHAT THEY'RE DOING FROM PARENTS. TEST SCORES DROP.
illustrate how the beliefs associated with Critical Race Theory are present in our schools.

"At the highest level, CRT posits that racism is implicitly woven into our laws, including the nature of policing and law enforcement in our communities."

Rockwood school board candidate Amy Ryan.
THE DENIAL
For months, naysayers, including Rockwood administrators and current school board candidates Deborah Stine and Amy Ryan, have told us Critical Race Theory (CRT) is not taught in schools, K-12.
TAUGHT. Did you catch that?
Of course, it's not.
Students don't sign up for CRT "classes" in Rockwood, like language arts or PE.
So, the denial is technically correct. But, it's misleading. And, dismissive of what actually IS found in class assignments, books, teacher resources and teacher training: the same beliefs that are IN Critical Race Theory.

A resource used by Rockwood teachers. Language arts lesson materials, such as a 9th grade video and an article, came from this site. |
*The idea that race is not biological; it's made up by white people (a social construct).
*The idea that your race (gender is in there, too) decides whether you are oppressed or privileged.
*The idea that our country and its institutions/laws/judicial system are set up to be racist against people who aren't white. (They also, generally, discriminate against people who aren't male.)
COVER PHOTO IS AN EXAMPLE
For an immediate example of a CRT belief found in Rockwood, look no further than the cover page of this website. It's a page from a book parents found in a kindergarten classroom at Pond Elementary.
Purchase records show Rockwood bought the book per a teacher's request. The book tells young children that white people made up race; it's not biological. Sound familiar? It also says white people believe they are smarter, prettier, and, deserve more than everybody else.
WHY, THEN?
Why do so many leaders keep telling us CRT is not in schools?
Honestly, they generally aren't aware of what we found in class lessons and books.
They keep saying the complaints are about what's taught in history class, but, nearly every piece of evidence we found comes from language arts classes. Not history classes.

ROLL OUT: PART 1. WE HAVE 108 PAGES OF EVIDENCE FROM ROCKWOOD CLASSROOMS AND RECORDS REQUESTS.
OVER THE NEXT FOUR DAYS, WE'LL BE ROLLING OUT THE EVIDENCE WE'VE COLLECTED OVER THE LAST YEAR.
We've already shared it with Missouri lawmakers. The evidence contradicts Rockwood administrators and school board candidates who say Critical Race Theory isn't in Rockwood.
The evidence contradicts Rockwood administrators and school board candidates who say Critical Race Theory isn't in Rockwood.
Disclaimer:
It's true--you won't find the words Critical Race Theory in Rockwood's curriculum.
Instead, it's the BELIEFS associated with CRT that are woven into daily lessons, books, and, teacher training. Missouri lawmakers have bills in the works to address the beliefs, or tenets, of CRT in schools right now.
When you click the link below, you'll see a table of contents and then then part 1, which is the first 29 pages of our 108 page document:
_________
When you vote Tuesday, consider:
School board candidates Amy Ryan and Deborah Stine say there's no CRT in Rockwood.
Candidates Izzy Imig and Jessica Clark have seen otherwise.
In fact, Clark says she decided to run for school board BECAUSE of the CRT she and her family have experienced in our district. Hear from her here: Jessica Clark: Stick to Academics
Then, visit us again tomorrow, for Part 2.
Note: Every example in Part 1 is already on this site. You can use the search tool to find it.
