SOME ROCKWOOD TEACHERS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE FOCUSING ON IDEOLOGY AND WHITE "PRIVILEGE"

THIS IS THE THIRD INFORMATION LEAK SO FAR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

There are teachers in Rockwood who aren't comfortable with professional development sessions they felt they had to take.

1) They leaked these first screenshots to show the topics in professional development that's happening this week.

(You can enlarge them by clicking them.)

There are discussions assigned on why white, Christian males are privileged and why people of color aren't.

Also, discussions about how privileged or targeted their students are, based on their race and gender, etc.

See the rest of the screenshots here.

So far, we're hearing this is happening in elementary schools and middle schools.

2) Before this, there was another leak related to teacher professional development.
This leak came from Eureka High School.

Like the above screenshots, the point of this professional development was for teachers to make their classrooms more "culturally responsive."

This is the email that was leaked.

The email included a PDF of suggestions for math, science, English language arts and social studies teachers.

Here's what we learned about the suggestions.

Links:

Math class: police are racist

Science class: talk about racism and homophobia

Social Studies class = use a resource that may be banned

Language Arts = push books with black or gay characters

3) A third leak happened this past fall:

All of this is in addition to the seminars brought to our attention during the summer, on whiteness, anti-racism, talks on race, and taking action for racial justice:

But, with proficiency in core subjects down, parents wonder why professional development is spent on social justice or ideology in the first place.
