HOLIDAY GIVING #2: TEACHERS SEEKING DONATIONS TO BUY ITEMS FOR THEIR CLASSROOMS

The average yearly salary for a teacher in Missouri is about $57,000, according to the data in this article. Also worth noting: lower earning teachers spend an average of $715 of their own money for items in their classrooms.

Sometimes, to get items they believe would help them better teach students, teachers request help in the form of donations through a site called Donors Choose

This holiday season, we are highlighting what Rockwood teachers have placed on that site.

We noticed 6 teachers requesting donations right now in Rockwood. We will be posting all of them in the order of their deadlines. Our last post included 2 projects, and one of them was fully funded after our post!

TODAY'S POST
Ms. Sarah Jones is requesting donations to purchase a sturdier teacher table that her students can sit around for more direct teacher-student instruction. Jones is a 7th grade Language Arts teacher at Rockwood South Middle School.

This is the table she's hoping to buy:

She's also hoping to buy these stools. (Six of them.)

READING SPACES
Another teacher, Ms. Maria Stout, says she is looking to encourage her 8th grade students to spend more time focused on reading, by creating inviting reading spaces in her classroom. Stout is also a Language Arts teacher at Rockwood South Middle School.

Among the items she'd like to buy: various cushioned chairs and floor cushions, including these:
