ROCKWOOD SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER IZZY IMIG HAS RESIGNED FOR "HEALTH AND PERSONAL REASONS"

The district announced the news today.

It says, in part, that Izzy Imig resigned "for health and personal reasons" and says she no longer wants to be considered a candidate for the April 8th school board election.

Imig's announcement comes amid a flurry of news reports detailing accusations of theft at two area Target stores: Chesterfield and Ballwin.

NEW INFORMATION
CHESTERFIELD TARGET
Imig apparently failed to scan more than just a vacuum cleaner at the Chesterfield Target earlier this month.

According to a combination of police crime summary information and information in this St. Louis Post Dispatch news article, here's what happened:

An employee noticed Imig not scanning items at a self checkout on March 4th, and brought her to the service counter to pay for those she missed. It is not clear how many Imig didn't scan, but all together, the purchase included $700 worth of items, including a vacuum cleaner.

After Imig paid, she walked out to her car with the items and with a handheld price scan device that the Target employee had left on Imig's cart. More on the device in a moment.

Chesterfield police did not get involved until later when they called Imig by phone because they discovered the vacuum cleaner had, again, not been scanned when the employee rang up the items at the service counter.

During the police interview, Imig allegedly claimed she had brought the vacuum to the store to return, but police said there was video of her taking the vacuum from the shelf. Police arrested Imig and then released her.

From the article:
"Police booked Imig and later released her from custody with a court date of June 10.

A Target security employee told Chesterfield police that Imig also allegedly stole about $300 worth of items from the Ballwin Target on Feb 23. Imig returned to the Ballwin Target on Friday with a shopping bag containing merchandise and requested to "re-purchase" the items, according to Chesterfield Police's report."

Note: We have requested that same police report but had not yet received it at the time of this posting.

BALLWIN TARGET: HANDHELD DEVICE
In our previous report, there was speculation and confusion about what happened at the Ballwin store. Ballwin police will only tell reporters that Imig was cited for an ordinance violation related to stealing and that she was not arrested.

It now appears, from the Chesterfield police report, that Ballwin police got involved when Imig brought the price scan device to the Ballwin Target (from the Chesterfield Target) to return it, along with other items she said she needed to "re-purchase."

It is not clear, but it appears, that those items are among the $300 worth of items referenced in the article excerpt above, allegedly taken from the Ballwin store on February 23rd, that Imig had asked to re-purchase.

In other words, the citation on March 7th at the Ballwin store appears to be related to a previous incident, rather than incidents on that day.

Community members have expressed concerned for Imig's mental health, noting that the time frame of these incidents (Feb 23rd - March 4th) follows significant stressful events in her personal life.

HER TERM
Imig served on the Rockwood School Board after winning the seat in a landslide in 2022. If not for her resignation, she would have finished the last weeks of her three year term. Per the district announcement, she has also withdrawn from her bid for reelection.
