GENEROSITY FULLY FUNDS 4 ROCKWOOD TEACHERS SEEKING NEARLY $2,000 WORTH OF ITEMS FOR THEIR CLASSROOMS

The teachers requested items such as easel-sized sticky notes, floor cushions, small furniture, book binding supplies, and subscriptions for students to Science World Magazine.

All the projects were submitted by the teachers on a site called Donors Choose, which publicizes teacher requests and takes donations for the teacher projects.

The most recent project to be fully funded was Ms. Hagarty's magazine subscriptions project at Wildwood Middle School, which we posted on this site 2 weeks ago.

That post was the 4th in a series of articles after we noticed last fall that donation requests from six Rockwood teachers were on the Donors Choose site. We featured their projects here, with information and links for possible donors.

WHY DONATE?

HELP TEACHERS
According to this article, the average yearly salary for Missouri teachers is about $57,000. In another, Education Week says, on average, teachers spend $715 of their own money for supplies in their classrooms.

PROFICIENCY 60% OR BELOW
The latest standardized MAP test scores for Rockwood show, in 2023:

57.8% the district's students scored proficient or advanced in Math
60.1% scored proficient or advanced in English Language Arts
58.2% scored proficient or advanced in Science.

Note: Rockwood points out these are higher than the state average.

The projects that were fully funded benefit students and teachers at Rockwood South Middle, Chesterfield Elementary, and Wildwood Middle.

For projects that aren't fully funded, Donors Choose says it either gives the money to the teachers or allows teachers to use the donations toward other projects.
