CRT IN ROCKWOOD. QUICK GLANCE AT WHAT WE FOUND, WHERE WE FOUND IT

OTHER PAGES DETAIL WHY THERE'S DISAGREEMENT OVER WHETHER CRITICAL RACE THEORY (CRT) IS IN K-12 SCHOOLS, AND EXPLAIN WHAT CRT IS.

ON THIS PAGE:
SEE SOME OF THE BELIEFS/TENETS OF CRT THAT PARENTS, STUDENTS, AND TEACHERS FOUND IN ROCKWOOD.

_____

We created the charts below to show those beliefs at a glance, and the lessons/books/materials where they were found.

NOTE:
20 Rockwood examples are listed in the charts.

IN ALL 20, students and teachers are getting messages like this:

*Racism is so prevalent in our society, that it's the norm.
*Your race determines whether you are privileged or oppressed.

IN 19 OF THE 20:
*Our country/laws/institutions, and/or POLICE are racist.

IN ROUGHLY HALF:
*Gender adds to oppression or privilege.
*Our country and its laws were founded on racism.
*White people made up race to help themselves.

If you'd like more detail, links to posts about each example are listed below each chart.

For the most clear images of the charts, click on them. The first 4 images divided the information into smaller charts that are most user friendly. The last chart image has all the data in one place.

Note:
INTERSECTIONALITY

A CRT term, "intersectionality," was coined by scholar and civil rights advocate Kimberle Crenshaw. Her explanation of intersectionality (race and gender intersect to make you more privileged or more oppressed) is the basis of the assigned video referenced above that was used in 9th grade language arts classes in Rockwood during the 2020-2021 school year.

The district said it discontinued its use after parent complaints.

NOTE:
These are not exhaustive lists, but they do show verified examples of what was seen in class assignments, in teacher resources, teacher training materials, or what students and parents experienced.

Also note:

The above charts summarize our 122 page dossier that formats the examples as exhibits of evidence.

ROCKWOOD RESPONSE

Rockwood denies teaching Critical Race Theory (CRT), but, doesn't deny using the materials mentioned above.

In fact, in some cases, the district administrators responded to parent complaints by saying they would make changes to, or remove, the controversial content.

HOW WE GOT THE EVIDENCE

Rockwood parents, teachers and students took screenshots of lesson materials from Canvas, from teacher resources, teacher training, and from books.

We, pulled it all together in one place with context, records requests, and interviews.

A lot of it is listed in the "Agenda vs Academics" page/tab and the "Teacher Training" page. Although those pages don't go into detail about connections to CRT, they do show lesson content that bothered parents.

BELIEF VS TENET

When we use the word "belief," it is used as a synonym for "tenet" because we know people more commonly use "belief." The former is generally held by an individual; the latter is generally held by a movement.
